Woo gave the audience full throttle and washed over them with guitar fuzz, screeching vocals, and rock nearly from the first song. The Bergen band opened Friday evening at Vaskeriet and made many people much happier.
Paradoxically perhaps, a racer rock band like Woo can seem so laid-back. Maybe it has something to do with confidence, as in after lots of rehearsing and a good number of concerts. Or maybe it's simply rock 'n' roll to be paradoxical ? sweet/rough, jangly/steady, hard/longing, tough/charming. That sort of thing.
Charm and Tangles
Woo kicked off with tons of energy, deep bass, jangly guitar strumming, and loud vocals. Thump, thump, lalala, riff, riff. More than enough carby live stuff to feed an obviously rock-hungry audience. Glitter shirts, star-studded string instruments, flaming sneakers, tangles, and swings in their hair. And perhaps best of all ? a solid drummer.
Good with Enthusiastic People
Many of the bands at by:Larm have been through Zoom, Woo is a former winner and has thus been on tour. Like several others, Woo has also been featured on Urørt, which is run by NRK Upunkt and Petre. Therefore, many had heard of Woo before. Perhaps one of the reasons why the first band out this evening had a decent crowd in front of the stage, from the music industry festival's highly selective audience. It says a lot that Woo managed to excite them.
